Welcome to Portland Opera Guild

Portland Opera Guild was established in 1960 by a dedicated group of volunteers supporting and promoting opera in the Portland area.  The Guild evolved into an organization that generously supports opera and opera education.  Our fifty years of service actually predates the formation of the Portland Opera Association.  The Guild was recently recognized by the presentation of the Portland Opera’s Aubrey N. Morgan Award for our vision and service to Portland Opera and to the art form in our region. Please call (503)-294-0010 for membership information.

George and Lee Anne Carter Named 2012 Aubrey N. Morgan
Award recipients for service to Portland Opera

Join me in congratulating George and Lee Anne for being awarded the 2012 Aubrey N. Morgan Award, Portland Opera's highest honor for their outstanding generosity and leadership in support of Portland Opera. The award, presented by Board President Jeff Thede during last night's Camerata dinner, outlined just a few of the many wonderful accomplishments they have achieved during their years of enthusiastic dedication to Portland Opera's mission for sharing the beauty and breadth of opera in our region. Lee Anne and George have done so much to support the Guild as we all know, and as Patricia Holloway stated,
"
I humbly add my gratitude and accolades to two wonderful people who exemplify philanthropy and community leadership. While there are many public instances of your generosity and dedication, those of us in Portland Opera Guild who have the honor of knowing you and working with you, will be the first to say that your public activities are just the tip of the iceberg. The other nine-tenths is the generosity and leadership you inspire in those you touch. "

Reach for the Stars -a Resounding Benefit Success

Reach for the Stars Party

The 'stars' of tomorrow were shining at World Forestry Center's Cheatham Hall on March 3rd, 2012, when Robert Ainsley, Portland Opera Associate Music Director and Chorus Master, and Portland Opera Studio Artists(POSAs) performed. Many thanks to our co-chairs Liz Davis, Christine Meadows, and Kathi Snouffer for their attention to every detail to make this stunning event a reality. Work and contributions by other Guild members helped with the event.

The glittering evening's auction raised funds in support of the POSA program, an exceptional two-year training and performance experience for up to five outstandingly gifted performers chosen from hundreds of national applicants. Membership in Portland Opera Guild, now in its 52nd year, is open to men and women interested in supporting and promoting this wonderful art form. Membership includes learning more about opera through opera previews performed at luncheons held the week prior to the opening of Portland Opera's productions.

Robert Ainsley-Lindsay Ohse

Portland Opera Guild thanks Robert Ainsley, Associate Music Director and Chorus Master for Portland Opera for hosting our annual fundraising event. His collaboration with our talented Studio Artists made the performance and the evening unforgettable. The ripple effect of this worthwhile program were highlighted throughout the evening. Rob served as emcee and auctioneer for the event and spurred the crowd to give generously. Throughout the program, General Director Christoper Mattaliano, Robert Ainsley, and Hanna Penn, a former Portland Opera Studio Artist who came to town as a part of the program and decided to make Portland her home explained the many benefits available to the Young Artists, Portland Opera, and the community at large.

More event photos will be available soon.

Based on the true story of an order of Carmelite nuns that took a vow of martyrdom during the French revolution, the shattering final scene of Francis Poulenc's opera has stunned audiences since it premiered in 1957. The 2012 Jeannine B. Cowles Distinguished Professor of Opera will be British stage director David Edwards. Highly regarded in the international operatic scene, Mr. Edwards
also tutors regularly at the Royal Academy in London and will bring inspiration to PSU students as they prepare this powerful opera.
